 The Berardo Collection has chosen Algarve to première what is considered to be one of the finest collections of Contemporary and Modern Art in the world. On display will be a magnificent collection of 20th and 21st century British monumental sculptures by some of the great names in Modern and Contemporary Art.
Part of the “Allgarve’10 Programme, the “Ten Monumental British Sculptures” exhibition will take place at the Cerro da Vila Museum and Archaeological Site in Vilamoura, in the council of Loulé, and will open on the 10th of September. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy these important works of art, perfectly integrated in the ruins that testify to the Roman presence in the region for about 900 years.
This unique collection of sculptures of unquestionable artistic and aesthetic merit represents three generations of sculptors, from the traditional to the avant-garde, known as the “New British Sculpture”, such as Tony Cragg.
Both Henry Moore, considered to be the forerunner of 20th century British sculpture, and his successor, Anthony Caro, are undoubtedly the bench mark for this varied and balanced exhibition, which runs from figurative and anthropomorphic representations to.
